Cave for Two

Cave for two." A cosy spot for romance at Hotel Jardín Tecina.

Hotel Jardín Tecina opens a new space for its customers: "Cave for two"

It is a natural cave, equipped to become the ideal place to enjoy a romantic evening. With the sound of the waves in the background, spectacular views over the bay of Playa de Santiago and a banana plantation at the foot of it. It all blends into a perfect intimate atmosphere for a unique evening.

The experience is completed with a choice of three delicious menus.

This place has a special meaning for our Company, it connects directly to the beginning of the activity of Fred Olsen S. A. in La Gomera.

In 1907, the predecessor company Fred Olsen Express Shipping in the Canaries, exported fruit and vegetables from the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife to northern Europe.
In this context, Mr. Ole R. Thoreson, Director of the Company in the Canary Islands, he went with his canarian partner, Alvaro Rodriguez Lopez, and Port Operations Chief, Manuel Diaz, to the island of La Gomera. The aim was to test the agricultural potential of land situated in the Tecina Lomada (where now stands Hotel Jardín Tecina).

They reached the coast of Playa Santiago, specifically the area where today stands the beach Club Laurel, in a felucca, a small sailboat at the time widely used for transporting goods and people between the islands.

They were welcome by a lady who lived in a cave on the side of the cliff. This woman offered them food, sacrificing a chicken, and shelter, in a small area designated for animals, using palm leaves to take shelter from the dew.

The next morning, they left for the heights of Benchijigua Valley. There, they found the spring waters that 105 later are still flowing, making this place an ideal site for the development of export agriculture.

This event was the beginning of the activities of Fred Olsen S. A La Gomera.
