A few years ago I discovered with fascination the roads of La Gomera, pathways that zigzag across the fields, old tracks that once communicated what mountains had separated that carried all that was necessary for the living of each population. Everything, except the news among gullies and ravines were broadcasted at real time by the whistling language.
La Gomera must be walked through without a hurry, stopping at the villages, talking to the local people and tasting their food.
This week I was very pleased to hear that La Gomera will have a programme in order to designate the island as the most prepared and the one with more choices for hiking. The roads and trails for the practice of this sport are beautiful as well as innumerable. The network trails of the island will be defined with accuracy to carry out a project of road signs and the drawing up of a specific map for that purpose. Therefore the walking tours can be done comfortably, enjoying nature and the beautiful landscapes. This plan will also include a set of viewpoints and shelters to make the journey easier.
The landscape of La Gomera surprises by the contrast and variety, full of charming small villages, running gorges, mighty rocks, wonderful palm groves, fertile agricultural terraces and Garajonay National Park with crystal clear streams and laurisilva plants, a rugged land but full of surprises at every turn.
